One app, three clouds, a lot of ways to overspend

The cloud your software runs on decides its cost, safety and how far it scales.

Cloud development is the building and running of software on rented platforms like AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, where capacity scales up when you are busy and down when you are quiet, instead of on your own physical servers โ€” where moving an ageing system across often starts.

That is where the trouble usually starts. Most shops really only know one cloud, so they push every client onto it, and reach for the biggest architecture they are comfortable with, a full cluster for an app that a simple setup would run. The platform and the size get decided before anyone has looked at what your app does or how many people use it, and the bill climbs from there.

Avaib works the other way round. We build across all three major clouds and every size of architecture โ€” one of the foundations we choose across the wider technology stack โ€” so we can recommend the platform that fits your app, match the machinery to the real workload, and hand you an environment you own, defined as code, that you can afford to run for years.

What we build in the cloud

Cloud-native apps, the infrastructure under them, and the bill kept sane.

From cloud-native applications and serverless back ends to containers, pipelines and cost tuning, here is the range of cloud work our senior specialists build and run across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.

A cloud engineer planning application architecture โ€” cloud development at Avaib โ€” Avaib

Cloud-native applications on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud

Applications designed for the cloud from the start, using managed databases, storage and services, so they scale when you are busy, cost little when you are quiet, and do not depend on a single fragile server.

Network cables in a data-centre patch panel โ€” cloud infrastructure at Avaib โ€” Avaib

Serverless and event-driven back ends

Functions and managed services that run only when they are needed, on AWS Lambda, Azure Functions or Google Cloud Functions, so you pay for what you actually use instead of a server that idles all night.

A DevOps engineer working on a deployment pipeline โ€” Avaib โ€” Avaib

Containers and Kubernetes, sized to the job

Docker containers and, where the scale genuinely warrants it, Kubernetes, so your app runs the same in every environment, but only after we have checked you actually need that much machinery.

Containers ready for cloud orchestration โ€” Avaib โ€” Avaib

Infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines

Your whole environment defined in Terraform and shipped through automated pipelines, so it can be rebuilt exactly, reviewed like code, and deployed safely instead of clicked together by hand and forgotten.

An engineer reviewing cloud security and monitoring on a laptop โ€” Avaib โ€” Avaib

Cloud data, storage and APIs

Managed databases, object storage, queues and the APIs that tie them together, set up for the read and write patterns your app really has, with backups and failover built in rather than bolted on later.

A specialist planning a cloud migration in a server room โ€” Avaib โ€” Avaib

Cost, security and reliability tuning

Right-sizing runaway environments, closing the security gaps a rushed setup leaves open, and adding the monitoring and failover that keep the app up, so the cloud bill and the risk both come back under control.

The cloud chosen before your app

How software ends up on the wrong cloud, over-built and overpriced.

This is the most common way a cloud project ends up costing far more than it should. It is not that AWS, Azure or Kubernetes are bad; it is that the platform and the size get chosen before your app is understood. Everything about how we work is designed to avoid it.

01

The platform is picked before your app is understood

An AWS-only shop reaches for AWS, an Azure-only shop reaches for Azure, and both reach for the biggest architecture they know. The cloud and the design are decided by habit, before anyone has looked at what your app actually has to do or how many people will use it.

02

Your app is over-built for a problem it does not have

A simple application ends up on a full Kubernetes cluster with services it will never use, because that is what the team is comfortable building. You pay to run and maintain infrastructure far bigger than the app needs, month after month.

03

The bill climbs and you are locked in

The environment quietly grows, the invoice grows with it, and everything is wired so tightly to one provider's proprietary services that moving, or even just cutting the cost, means a rebuild. The cloud was never sized or chosen for your app in the first place.

Every major cloud is excellent, and every size of architecture has its place, for the right app. The mistake is treating the platform and the size as a house habit instead of a decision made for your app, its real load, your budget and where it needs to go next.

The right-sizing ladder

Match the cloud to the app, from the lightest option up.

There is no single best cloud architecture, only the lightest one that comfortably does the job. Here is roughly how the options stack up, and how we help you climb only as high as your app actually needs.

Managed hosting
App platforms, managed databases
A straightforward app or website with steady, predictable traffic. The simplest thing that works, with almost nothing to maintain and a small, predictable bill.
Serverless
Lambda / Azure & Cloud Functions
Spiky or occasional workloads, background jobs and APIs where load comes and goes. You pay per run, so quiet periods cost close to nothing and busy spikes scale on their own.
Managed containers
Docker on ECS / App Service / Cloud Run
A growing application that needs consistent environments and easy scaling, without the overhead of running a cluster. The sweet spot for most serious apps.
Kubernetes
EKS / AKS / GKE
Genuinely large or complex systems with many services and real scale demands. Powerful, but only worth its running and maintenance cost once you have actually outgrown the rung below.
We start at the lightest rung that fits and only climb when the app genuinely earns it, so you are never paying to run and maintain machinery bigger than your workload needs.

The concerns, answered

What worries people about the cloud, and how we handle it.

These are the real concerns we hear before a cloud project or a cloud rescue starts. Here is exactly how Avaib takes each one off the table.

"Our cloud bill has tripled and no one can tell me why or how to bring it down."
Runaway bills almost always come from over-sized, always-on infrastructure and forgotten resources. We audit what you are actually running, right-size or move it to serverless where the load is spiky, delete what nothing uses, and set up cost alerts, so the bill matches the workload instead of drifting upward.
"Everything is wired so tightly to one provider that we could never move or even negotiate."
We lean on portable foundations, containers, open databases and infrastructure-as-code, and use a provider's proprietary services deliberately, only where they earn their place. You keep the option to move or renegotiate, because the app is not welded to one vendor by accident.
"A simple app somehow ended up on a huge Kubernetes cluster we cannot afford to run or staff."
We match the architecture to the real need. Most apps do not need Kubernetes; managed hosting, serverless or managed containers are cheaper, simpler and easier to keep alive. Where you have genuinely outgrown that, we build the cluster, but never as a reflex.
"We are worried our cloud setup is insecure and a breach is one misconfiguration away."
Rushed cloud setups leave storage open, secrets in the wrong place and access far too broad. We lock down identity and access, encrypt data, close public exposure the app does not need, and set up monitoring, so security is designed in rather than discovered after an incident.
"When one server goes down the whole thing goes down, and it always happens at the worst time."
A single fragile server is a single point of failure. We build with managed, redundant services, automated backups and failover across availability zones where it matters, so the app keeps running through the failures that would otherwise take it offline.
"A contractor set up our cloud, left nothing documented, and now no one dares touch it."
We define your environment as code in Terraform, so it is readable, reviewable and rebuildable, not a black box in one person's head. You own the account, the code and the documentation, and any capable team can pick it up.

Why Avaib

Why choose Avaib for your cloud development.

Plenty of shops can stand up a cloud environment in their one preferred way. Fewer pair two decades across all three major clouds with senior specialists, a real QA department, active cost control, and a price that does not punish you for the quality.

20+ years and every major cloud

Building and running software on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud since the cloud became serious, across more than 600 projects, so we can recommend and build on whichever platform genuinely fits your app rather than the one we happen to sell.

The cloud and the size chosen for your app

We work across all three major clouds and every architecture from managed hosting to Kubernetes, so we have nothing to defend. We recommend the platform and the size that fit your app, budget and scale, and explain the trade-offs in plain language.

Bills that match the workload

We right-size infrastructure and reach for serverless and managed services where they fit, so you pay for what you use. A dedicated QA department and monitoring keep it reliable, and cost stays something we actively manage, not a surprise at month end.

How we work

From first conversation to a cloud setup you can afford and trust.

Understand the app, the load and the budget first, recommend the platform and the right size, build it as code with security and testing baked in, then tune the cost and support it, so you always see progress and never end up over-built or over-billed.

01

Understand the app, the load and the budget

We start with what your app does, how many people use it and how that load behaves, so the cloud and the architecture are chosen to fit reality rather than habit, and you are not sold more infrastructure than the app needs.

02

Recommend the platform and the right size

You get an honest recommendation, which cloud, and how heavy the architecture should be, from managed hosting to Kubernetes, with the running costs and trade-offs in plain English, plus a clear scope before any building starts.

03

Build it as code, secure and tested

Senior specialists define the environment in Terraform, wire up the app, data and pipelines, lock down security and add monitoring, each slice tested by our QA department, so you get a cloud setup that is reviewable, repeatable and safe, not clicked together by hand.

04

Tune the cost, then support it

We right-size once real traffic arrives, set up cost and health alerts, back it with a 30-day warranty, and keep it current as the platforms change, so the app stays reliable and the bill stays under control instead of drifting up unnoticed.

Pricing

Enterprise-grade cloud, without the enterprise price tag.

Senior cloud engineers from around USD 25 per hour, the same capability Australian, US, Canadian and Middle-East firms charge a fortune for, at a fraction of the price. Right-sizing the architecture is often the single biggest saving, since you stop paying for machinery your app never uses. We scope the work clearly up front, separate the one-off build cost from the ongoing cloud running cost, and every engagement leaves you owning your accounts, code and setup outright.

Best for a defined project

Fixed-scope cloud build

For a clearly scoped piece of cloud work, a new cloud-native app, a serverless back end, an environment set up as code, we agree the platform, the scope and the price up front, then build and test it against your real requirements.

Best for ongoing work

Dedicated cloud team

A senior cloud team fluent across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, working as an extension of yours, that you can scale up or down as priorities shift while the knowledge of your environment stays with people who stay on it.

Best for a bill or setup out of control

Cloud audit and rescue

We take on a runaway bill, an insecure setup or an over-built environment, then right-size it, close the gaps and get it documented as code, on a plan sized to your risk and budget.

Every project is delivered by senior cloud specialists under one accountable team, tested by a dedicated QA department, backed by a 30-day warranty, and you keep the accounts, the code and the documentation with no lock-in. Not sure which cloud or how big a setup you need? We will give you an honest recommendation on a free scoping call and send you a free, no-obligation written estimate with a clear scope.

Common questions

Cloud development, answered.

What are cloud development services?

Cloud development services are the design, building and running of software on cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, instead of on your own physical servers. That covers building applications to run in the cloud, setting up the databases, storage and networking they need, automating how they are deployed, and keeping them secure, reliable and affordable to run.

The point of the cloud is that you rent capacity that scales up when you are busy and down when you are quiet, so you do not pay for a data centre sitting idle. A good cloud development company chooses the right platform and the right size of architecture for your app, rather than defaulting to one cloud or the biggest setup it knows. Avaib has built and run cloud software for more than twenty years, across over 600 projects on all three major clouds.

Which cloud should we use, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud?

It depends on your app and your business. AWS has the broadest range of services and is a safe default for most workloads; Azure often fits best when you already run Microsoft tools like Windows, Active Directory or Microsoft 365; and Google Cloud is strong for data, analytics and machine-learning-heavy work. In practice, all three can run most applications well.

Because we build on all three, we recommend the platform that genuinely fits your app, your existing tools and your team, rather than pushing whichever one we happen to sell. We also keep your setup as portable as sensibly possible, so you are not locked to one provider by accident and can move or negotiate later if you need to.

How do you stop cloud costs from getting out of control?

Runaway cloud bills almost always come from infrastructure that is bigger than the app needs, always-on servers that could be serverless, and forgotten resources nobody switched off. We start by matching the architecture to the real workload, using managed hosting or serverless where the load is light or spiky, and only reaching for heavy infrastructure like Kubernetes when the scale genuinely warrants it.

From there we right-size what is running, delete what nothing uses, and set up cost alerts and monitoring so spending is visible and controlled rather than a surprise at month end. On existing environments, a cloud audit is often the fastest way to bring a climbing bill straight back down.

Do we need Kubernetes?

Usually not, and that is worth saying plainly, because a lot of apps end up on a Kubernetes cluster that is far more than they need. Kubernetes is powerful for genuinely large, complex systems with many services and real scale demands, but it is expensive to run and needs skilled people to keep alive.

For most applications, managed hosting, serverless functions or managed containers (like AWS ECS, Azure App Service or Google Cloud Run) are cheaper, simpler and easier to maintain, and they scale perfectly well. We match the architecture to your actual scale, so you only take on Kubernetes once you have truly outgrown the lighter options.

Will we own our cloud account and setup, or be locked in?

You own everything. The work is done in your own cloud accounts, and we define your infrastructure as code in Terraform, so the whole environment is readable, reviewable and rebuildable rather than a black box in one person's head. You keep the accounts, the code and the documentation.

We also design deliberately for portability, leaning on containers and open standards, and using a provider's proprietary services only where they clearly earn their place. That means you are never locked out of your own environment, and you keep the freedom to move providers or renegotiate.

Can you fix or take over a cloud setup someone else built?

Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we are called in for. Whether the bill is climbing, the setup feels insecure, the architecture is over-built, or a contractor left and documented nothing, we start with an honest audit of what is actually running rather than reaching straight for a rebuild.

From there we right-size the infrastructure, close the security gaps, cut the waste and get the whole environment defined as code so it is documented and safe to change. You come out with a cloud setup you understand, own and can afford to run.

How much do cloud development services cost?

It depends on the scope, since setting up a serverless back end is very different from architecting and running a large multi-service platform. That is why we scope the work clearly up front and give you a fixed, plain-English quote before any building starts, so there are no open-ended surprises, and we separate the one-off build cost from the ongoing cloud running cost so you can see both.

Our senior cloud engineers work at a cost-effective rate of around USD 25 per hour, the same capability Australian, US, Canadian and Middle-East firms charge a fortune for, and AI-accelerated delivery helps get you there faster. After a short conversation we will send you a free, no-obligation written estimate with a clear scope.
